SUSTAINABILITY WORK

Towards a Circular Economy

We are a piece of the puzzle to promote the circular economy and material usage, as well as decrease the amount of waste and emissions generated in the construction sector in the Nordics.
100% Recyclable
Lower CO2e Emissions
Decreases Amount of Waste
Promotes Circular Economy
Our manufacturing makes a real difference by recycling up to 7,000,000 kg composite packaging waste per year which would otherwise go through waste streams where the majority of the material would have been incinerated. Material recycling instead of incinerating this waste saves CO2 emissions by over 5000 tons per year.

Our products are also 100% recyclable without any waste, emissions or extra costs, since they can be made into new boards are RECOMA in a circular solution. As our production grows, our ability to make a positive change in the circular economy grows with it and we can contribute to make the construction sector more sustainable. Replacing an alternative with our boards means up to 90% CO2e savings.

BENEFITS

Environmental benefits

Our products are a green and low in carbon dioxide alternative to traditional materials in the construction sector. We save waste from incineration and transform it into product. Our process generates no waste or left-overs. On the contrary, we save plastics from incineration and preserve cellulose with bound carbon dioxide in it. At the end of the product's life cycle it can be recycled to become new boards. All in all, our production and product have an extremely low carbon footprint, -10.6 kg per square meter of 12mm board. It is 100% recycled and made in Sweden. An affordable and simple option to radically reduce emissions and waste.

REUSABILITY

Upcycling

Most people see packaging as disposable and which only value lies in its ability to keep product fresh / secure. We see potential beyond its original intended use and value in what it can contribute to in the construction sector.

By upcycling creating something more valuable than the original product, we make boards for a variety of uses.
More than 1000 packages are used in the production of one board, and every truckload with our products is equivalent to 300,000 composite packages that would otherwise end up in a waste plant.
LOCAL

Locally produced

Our product is 100% made in Sweden, while the majority of boards are imported. Despite a well-known wood industry more than half of wooden- and wood based boards are imported. The year 2017, 55 million square meters wood based boards were sold in Sweden but only 48% of these were produced in Sweden.

We work towards all six of the EU taxonomy environmental objectives and several of the UN sustainable development goals.

LOWER EMISSIONS

Sustainable material

Recoma revolutionizes two industries; The construction industry and the recycling industry.

We revolutionize the construction industry by providing an easy-to-use alternative to traditional boards at a similar price, with only a fraction of the climate impact.

HIGHER IMPACT

Sustainable recycling

Recoma revolutionizes the recycling industry by providing a process with a 100% recycling rate for a composite material that is traditionally very hard to recycle.

Alternative methods contributes to much higher emissions of CO2 and have a far lower recycling rate.

RECOMAs Solution

Traditional Recycling
Composite packaging is typically complicated to recycle completely. Because of the aluminum- and plastic barrier content they can’t be used to make new paper without first going through a separation process. This recycling process uses large amounts of water to separate the fibres in the carton from the other material. The amount of fibres that is still usable is used to make new paper. The rest, plastic and aluminum included, is incinerated for energy recovery.
RECOMA
RECOMA uses these materials as well to make our boards even better; the plastic binds the pieces of fibre, while the reflective properties of the aluminum contribute to a higher insulation value in the board. This means that 100% of the waste in recycled in our process and no additives are needed. This also means that our product is made from 100% recycled material and is  100% recyclable.
The Result
The result is a building material whose production does not require deforestation or mining of natural materials, no additives or chemicals, no water consumption, and no waste is generated. Only energy is needed, and the raw material that would otherwise have gone to incineration is used to create our sustainable product. The sustainable option, quite simply.
